The new millennium demands a new breed of designers.  A designer who has an intuitive understanding of the new generation needs, a desire to create a better living environment and innate respect for nature and her resources. The Fashion Design programme is formulated in such a way that it will equip the designer with a piece of holistic knowledge and a well-balanced perspective of designing.  The ultimate aim of the course is to create a responsible designer who will serve the country and society by innovation, education and research. The syllabus of this course is project oriented so that it will not only benefit the students but also the local artisans and it has social relevance.

Fashion Design Program has been broken down into 2 Professional full-time programmes ( Basic Course and Advanced Course ) with an ultimate aim in creating a responsible designer who will serve the country and society by innovation, education, technology, and research. The course falls under an emerging area of design necessity. The course is based on the core subject – “Design Thinking” with the aim of creating a “Responsible Designer“.  This programme provides a perspective of society, environment, education, technology, and innovation so that a fresh and unique approach in the fields of clothing, accessories, and furnishings may be developed thereby creating more meaningful products and experiences.

The structure of the courses is designed in such a way that it provides skill development required to be a successful fashion designer along with entrepreneurial skills to set up their own venture. A unique feature of these courses is the continuous interaction of the students with society and environment through projects and providing training programmes.

BASIC COURSE

Duration: Four Months
Tuition Fee:  Gh₵ 1,200.00 for Ghanaian applicants  || $240.00 for Foreign applicants. NOTE: The amount listed covers all the courses under Basic Courses.
Class Session: Morning (8:30am-12:30pm)  || Afternoon (1:00pm-4:00pm) ||  Evening (5:00pm-8:00pm)

This course is an introduction to basic sewing and construction skills. Fabric definition, construction, and function are studied. Students learn hand sewing and finishing, body measurements, pattern use, fabric layout and cutting as well as machine operations. Students are required to create and complete garments.

A course to develop your ideas and creative skills through the medium of fashion illustration. You’ll study different methods of drawing and recording work in the context of fashion, and learn conventional and new media techniques.

The idea is to find your own visual language and unlock your creativity through drawing, from concept to completion. This fashion illustration course is ideal for beginners as well as more experienced students.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn pattern-making principles and techniques for the development of basic blocks/slopes to fit their own personal measurements, through practical application, demonstrations and reference notes. Students will complete a bodice, sleeve and skirt block in their own personal size.

Students will benefit from completing the making up of toils (cutting and sewing calicoes based on the blocks you have developed) outside of class in order to utilize class sessions for fittings and adjustments to patterns under the tutor’s guidance.

Fashion entrepreneurs push the global fashion industry forward, through design innovation and new business models. In this course, the stories of the industry’s most dynamic entrepreneurs have divided into distinct stages of a business’ evolution, from launch and early traction to business pivots and the challenge of scaling a global business. Be it building an independent brand or launching a fashion tech business, these entrepreneurs’ stories exemplify the motivation and perseverance required for success in today’s competitive fashion market, sharing the hard-learned lessons they learnt on the way. They are required reading for any budding fashion entrepreneur.

Overview: The menswear industry is growing and designers specialized in this area are in the middle of a creative boom. With leading designers moving into menswear, the tide is now changing and the market for men’s apparel is getting more and more media attention, in addition to increasing brand revenue. 

Participants learn how to create innovative collections, and the study and application of research methods for creative and original product development are key throughout. Menswear is a different fashion animal altogether.

Overview: The course provides a solid base in fashion design and the fashion system, looking at various targets in womenswear to be able to chose the appropriate design language, choice of materials, colour palettes and inspirational ‘stories’ to satisfy a design brief or brand identity, consumer habits and trends, and business positioning and marketing strategies. Research into fashion history and culture and historic references in art and dress further enhance creative thinking, inspiring participants to experiment with new design proposals.

Dear Applicant, to study both Advance and Basic Courses, the amount or fee is GHC2,700.00 for Ghanaian applicants and $540.00 for foreign applicants. Within the One-Year Course, there will be a 2-months attachment and a final project presentation, so take note.
